Dvd Recorder & WriterA dvd recorder is an electronics device that records analog or digital audio/visual (A/V) signals in a digital format onto a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc). A dvd recorder is also known as dvd writer. A dvd recorder, different from digital video recorder (DVR), records onto a removable dvd instead of a hard disk. A dvd recorder has standard A/V inputs and playback functions like a video cassette recorder (VCR). A dvd recorder can also be used to play many audio and video CDs like a dvd player. The dvd recorders or dvd writers first came up in the consumer market in 1999 in Japan, and they were available in the rest of the world in 2000. The dvd recorders were priced between $2,500 and $4,000. There has been great development in the quality and quantity of the dvd recorders in early 2006. The dvd recorders come in three major formats; the “minus” format (DVD-R and DVD-RW), the “plus” format (DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL), and the DVD-RAM format. The “minus” format is also referred to as “dash”. Ab initio, the dvd recorders only recorded in “minus” or “plus” formats, however the majority of dvr systems now incorporate both recording standards. It’s generally believed that dvr systems are developed from the VCRs. However the dvr systems are quite better than the VCRs. The following are the plus points of dvd recorders as compared to VCRs.
Another advantage of the dvd recorders is that they are much faster and reliable, and most of the systems allow the connectivity to the camcorders. The major advantage of dvd recorders available in 2006 is that the devices are priced impressively lower (approximately 90% lower) than that of the prices in 2000. The best dvd recorders are available in the affordable prices. There are many makers offering discount dvd recorders as well as cheap dvd recorders. However, the 2006 dvd recorders are not capable of capturing the full range of the visual signal available with high definition television (HDTV). |
