The dvd shrink is software that is used as part of the process for backing up DVDs. The basic edition 'Dvd Shrink' is freeware program for Microsoft Windows that helps backing up dvd movies.

There is the possibility that the content of the DVD (e.g. subtitles, extras) may be left untouched, in the shrunk quality of DVD.

The dvd shrink software is a free software that is no longer being developed. The architect of the software has, thus his official announcement, aired that he would no longer continue further development of dvd shrink. The version 3.2.0.15 released on July 25, 2004 is the latest version of the software.

The official DVD Shrink website offered free dvd shrink and free dvd shrink download. However, the last update on the official DVD Shrink website was on August 17, 2005, displaying “is no more!” This was a result of DVD Shrink's web host receiving a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act, a United States copyright law) takedown notice complaining about the direct links pointing to the download of the DVD Shrink program.
